A special assignment from the aldermen of the municipality of De Ronde Venen

On November 10, 2025, the mayor of the municipality of De Ronde Venen retired. For this occasion, I was asked to create a farewell artwork, a commission I undertook with pride and gratitude.

The municipal aldermen asked me to create something that would do justice to the significance of his term in office and to the ties with the villages within De Ronde Venen. We quickly arrived at a beautiful symbol that encapsulates all of this: the municipal chain of office.

The images show the chain of office as I created it, engraved and carved from wood—a powerful image, full of stories and symbolism. Each medallion refers to a village, a piece of history, or a landmark. I tried to capture that sense of cohesion and identity in the artwork I created for his farewell.

It's special to be able to mark a moment of transition with art – after 14 years as mayor (November 15, 2011, to November 10, 2025) to a well-deserved retirement. I consider it an honor to contribute with this work to such a significant moment in the history of De Ronde Venen.
